House in a Field

Nadiad, Gujarat

Residence for a young couple, located amidst an organic farm. Our architectural design process explores the idea of living ‘in-between’ through spaces like verandas & courtyards, building a soulful dialogue between the ‘built’ and nature. Sited far from the city, the building responds to three interdependent design decisions to simultaneously affect the layout, the choice of sustainable building materials, and the siting of the building within the farmland. These responsible design solutions incorporate rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, reed-bed based wastewater treatment, and ecological landscaping using local species.

Clients: Brinda & Vivek
Climate: Hot & Dry
