The design of the bus shelter is conceived as a robust demonstration of the possibilities of the use of bamboo aided by steel as a material actively participating in public projects of the future.
In the absence of certified timber-based plantations in India; bamboo has become one of the most compelling sustainable building materials to architecturally respond to environmental challenges. In fact, a pragmatic application of using a mix of industrial and natural materials for example steel and bamboo represents the responsible design solutions and demanding aesthetics of the new age.
Our intent is to create tectonics of bamboo and steel for public use through a rigorous architectural design process. A necessary impetus to the application of bamboo and its wider acceptability is desired for India. We imagine that our suggestions should increase the demand for future projects in bamboo, showcasing modern craftsmanship in design and supporting enterprise and employment within the sector like other skills of fabrication, carpentry, and masonry.
